5 Essentials to Selecting Keywords and Search Engine Marketing

Internet marketing doesn’t have to be complex. With the right search engine optimization strategy and keyword software tools, it’s much easier than you may think. For example, I’ll share 5 quick bullets that will significantly enhance your search engine marketing efforts.

1. Pick smart keywords. Many fantasize that they’ll quickly line their pockets with cash whenever they come across highly searched terms; however, most will only see an outflow of pay-per-click dollars. Select phrases with less competition that still relate to your offering. That’s what I call “smart keywords.”

2. Target keywords you can optimize. These are terms that directly relate to what you have to offer and can be appropriately embedded into your content in ways that do not anger the search engine gods.

3. Go where the soil is rich. Search out niches where the majority of the higher ranking pages are at a sub-level, which provides you with the opportunity to dominate with your top-level page.

4. Optimize for high Page Rank. Search engines use specific logic, not voodoo. Learn what your competitors are doing and then beat them by flowing with the process logic.

5. Optimize “On Page” design. Because the search engines systematically look for certain on-page layouts, you can incorporate the appropriate format into your website with little or no additional effort. Knowing how to use headings (H1 and H2), titles, formatting (bold, italics, and underlining), alternate text tags, and keyword placement can make all the difference.

The key to all this is very simple: evaluate your niche competition and become slightly better.
