Search Engine and How You Can Profit From It

A search engine is a server or computer or a combination of computers capable of searching for some information in the world wide web. These information include among others, catalog of web pages, images, databases, and open directories. Usually a set of results or information is produced based on some keyword query. Examples of search engine and free people search include white pages, MSN, and google. Some popular search engines include MSN, Yahoo, and Google Inc.

Historically, webservers predated search engines and were listed on the CERN webserver. Next came the Gopher system which also searched file names and databases, but not content. The now obsolete Wandex was the first search engine followed by Aliweb in 1993. Jumstation search engine used a web crawler which found only tiltles of web pages.

Modern day search engines use web crawlers or bots for full text crawling of web pages searching for any word in the web pages. Search engines in addition to crawling web pages also perform indexing and searching functions. When a user queries a search engine using a keyword, the search provides a set of matching web sites from its index including a short summary of the web site. Google has become the most popular search engine in our times because they use a very innovative parameter named “page rank”. The page rank of web sites is a heirachical order based on unique content, relevance and links. The web sites with higher page ranks will be more visible than others of lower page rank. It is based on all these features of search engines that we are now able to perform certain search functions from mundane day to day activity to things like free people search, free telephone search, social security search, background checks, foreclosure listings, home and car sales, etc.

It is a misconception to think that only the big guys can profit from the search engine boom. The truth of the matter is that you can tap in and profit from your very own search engine today.
