Six Things to Consider When Creating and Harvesting Your Own Email List!
Email marketing has many forms and can be a solid and valuable way of increasing sales. The newsletters, special offers, discounts and promotions are effective and will push or spike your sales but only if viewers reading the emails know who you are and care about what you are offering.
It is not an overnight sensation that can be built by purchasing mail lists or by misleading individuals into giving you their email address. Have you ever walked into a store and been approached by an aggressive salesperson who refused to leave you alone? It can be extremely aggravating and frustrating; to the point that depending on the importance of your purchase at that time, you may just walk out rather than deal with them and with your walkout at least one sale and possibly more left the building. Is that the appearance that you want your email to have?
For the most part; you are not going to talk somebody into something that they do not want! Let me rephrase that, why would you talk somebody into something they do not want? There are way too many negative effects from doing this. Unless you are looking for a quick dollar; you want no longevity in the market and you are required to reinvent yourself every four months, then I apologize for wasting your time.
The dictionary defines Harvesting as: To reap the results of something. This means exactly what is in the definition, you have to offer something in order to reap the rewards and this applies to what you as a company and the products/services are going to provide to the person looking at your company. It does not mean your offer is an email so they have to provide an email address. If your website or email advises the viewer of what can be expected and you live up to that expectation, they are more likely to take your word for it in the future and welcome what you have to offer.
The most effective way to set up an email marketing campaign is time! You can build your email list by providing the individuals who sign up with you, honesty in what you have available, let them know how often you will send out a newsletter or special offer (promise you will not send them an email every other day and you will not sell their address!). You cannot force a list, unless your product or service is so unique that the masses are falling over themselves to get what you have (then in this case you don’t need an email campaign!) you should expect that they know what you basically offer.
You have to give them what they do not expect! Things like integrity, details (no hidden costs or surprises), assurances and always follow up and deliver on what you offer! Word of mouth advertising cannot be bought and is extremely powerful. You will be surprised as your list will grow quicker than you thought and those viewers that are actually interested in your something will help you reap from those results.
