Have you ever felt like you were locked onto the path that you have chosen for your life? Do you feel that even though you are not getting enjoyment out of your job you need to stay with it because of the security it provides? If you have answered yes to these questions you are not alone. I found myself miserable in my former job. I was commuting over a hundred miles a day and my employer did not appreciate the effort that I put into my job. I was paid a good wage, but I was miserable. I was getting headaches and feeling run down and depressed. I knew that something had to change because I was hoping time would go faster as I counted down the years until I would be able to retire.
One day I realized I was wishing my life away by wanting time to move faster by looking forward to retirement. Life is too short to spend it in a dead end job that only brought misery with the pay check. Even though I knew nothing whatsoever about owning a business I decided that having a home based business would be the best way out for me. I am amazed at the things that I have learned since I made the decision to have my own business. Last year I had never even surfed the internet, I did not even have a personal email address. Today I have three email accounts, three of my own websites and I am making more money part time than I had been making full time. Best of all I am doing this from the comfort of my home.
One of the first things I needed to do once I decided which home based company I was going to go into partnership with, was to name my company and to develop a website. I found that there are many sites that will help you walk through this process. I wanted a unique named website. I learned how to do a domain name search to insure that my website would not be confused with one that belonged to anyone else. A domain is the name of your website. To find out if anyone else is using a name you need to do a domain name search. When I first started out this concept was very foreign to me. I had come up with what I thought was a unique and catchy name for my company. As I was developing my website I was directed to perform a domain name search. The search came back that someone else was already using the name. When the domain name search was completed I was provided with a list of similar names that were still available. This is when I realized how so many websites appear when a key phrase is typed in. I have registered some domain names that are similar to others and then I have tried to develop at least one site that is different to see which will get more traffic.
My learning experience continues as my business grows. I’m learning about time management, customer management, accounting and, most of all, personal fulfillment. Owning your own business isn’t easy, but the rewards far outweigh anything else. The biggest reward is that I no longer have headaches, feel trapped or wish for time to pass faster. To learn the value of time and how precious every minute of every day was the most valuable lesson this business taught me. Use every minute wisely, you can never get it back to do over.
