YouTube For Real Estate?
Ok, so just a couple months ago, I would have laughed at the thought of using YouTube in any way for video tours or other professional ventures. Quite frankly, their video quality was extremely poor and their were far better options existing, such as Veoh, MotionBox and Vidego. Suddenly, that has all changed.
Over a short period of time, YouTube has done a few things to improve their position. First, they provided a widescreen player. The reason that this is significant, is that real estate by it’s very nature lends itself quite nicely to a nice, wide view screen. Furthermore, most new cameras shoot in widescreen as standard. This means that wit a square player, you would get a letterboxed video, which causes you to loose screen real estate (pardon the pun).
The second thing YouTube has done, is they upped the quality of the video to provide a very nice image. Instead of a heavily pixelated video, you can have one of three qualities. The normal quality, which is still awful, the high-quality option which looks better than most other players on the market and the new high definition player which is fantastic, assuming you have a computer that will play it smoothly.
The final thing that YouTube has done is enlarged the player so that you get a larger viewing screen. This enlarged player will allow viewers the ability to really see the great details that your video provides, especially in conjunction with the higher quality of the image.
Now, do not get me wrong, YouTube is not the all-powerful video choice for real estate. They still don’t allow for chaptering the videos, and they don’t create an unbranded player needed for most MLS systems, for that you will still need a service like WellcomeMat. However for your personal website or for a face to face presentation, YouTube may be just what the broker ordered.
One thing to remember, with the larger player and the higher quality comes a greater ability for viewers to see your limitations as a shooter and the limitations of a cheap camera. If you want a good video that provides a positive image for you, and your listing, hire a professional. We at OpenHouseHD would be more than glad to shoot your listing or provide you with the name of a professional in your area, so feel free to give us a call.
