Advertising on the Internet comprises an assortment of publicity and promotional techniques. These can include but are not limited to circumstantial advertising specifically on search engines, Rich Media Ads, email marketing, online classifieds, banner advertisements and networks. All these channels of advertising are sure ways of drawing attention but income will vary depending on suitability of the content and the target audience.

EXAMPLES

One of the most popular online advertising vehicles is Google’s AdSense. It is a technological platform or application that links advertisements placed in Google to website content and internet audiences. Money is subsequently earned based on the number of clicks to the advertisement. Connextra, Ad Software, BanManPro are others that offer various forms of online advertising ingenuity.

BENEFITS

The biggest benefit to online advertising is that sales and profits can increase exponentially. From the outset, the advertiser can achieve immediate online presence at the global stage. Geographical and time differences immediately cease to become obstacles to achieving the strategic goals. Furthermore, the size of the business does not count. At this level all that matters is whether the service can be delivered and this is an especially critical opportunity for small and medium enterprises.

COST PER IMPRESSION

Online advertisers just like their counterparts in the print and electronic media can opt to pay per impression; CPM (Cost Per Impression). Under this arrangement, advertisers are charged for the rendering their messages to specific audiences. Fee is paid on the basis of a set of one thousand impressions. M in the acronym represents the Roman number for one thousand.

COST PER VISITOR

Under this arrangement, the advertiser pays for helping navigate the target audience to the advertisers website. As the name suggests the fee paid is on the basis of one visitor landing on the advertisers website. Should the visitor not land on the Advertisers page for any reason, the Advertiser is under no obligation to pay.

COST PER CLICK

Advertising online can also be done based on an arrangement where a fee is payable on a per click basis. Such a click redirects the user to the advertisers website. This is also sometimes referred to as Pay per Click. Through analysis of the clicks advertisers can identify rich words and therefore refine their advertising to reflect these words thereby redirecting significant portions of traffic to intended websites. Whether the visitor lands on the intended advertiser website or not, the payment still has to be made because a click has been recorded.

COST PER ACTION

This is a transaction-based online advertising strategy. The publisher essentially undertakes to manage the advertising process of the advertisement. Transactions emanating from the publisher are monitored and the advertiser pays on the basis of the concluded transactions. The actions include purchases, sign-ups, commitments, polls, voting and several other forms of transactions.

CONCLUSION

As discussed above, there really is no limit to the opportunities available to anybody whether at a personal level or corporately as to the amount of money that they can make online through advertising. There are several options and strategies that can be used to advertise either for goods and services offered or as a publisher for advertisers who pay you for the kind of transactions that they desire.
