Choosing a Good Domain Name

When choosing a domain name, of course you want it to be personal, something that people will associate with you, but you don’t want it so personal, say a site named after you, that it’s never going to show up in a search, such as johndoe.com. You want your domain name to be associated with the content of your site. People are going to do a search for whatever it is they are looking for, which most likely isn’t going to be a specific person selling something, it’s going to be what they’re selling or offering, etc.

Keywords in your domain name are important for the search engines and directory listings. You should ultimately seperate your keywords with punctuation, such as hyphens. Without the use of punctuation, the directory software may not be able to decipher between them, so to speak.

Keywords in your domain name can affect search engines in respect to link popularity. Probably everyone knows that backlinks are very important to your SEO, but do you know that the content of your backlinks are important?

One more quick thing to consider. Site directory listings are alphabetical, so you may want to think about that when choosing a domain name. Do most people scroll all the way to the bottom of the list? Most likely they don’t. You stand a better chance of getting to the top of the lists if you have a domain name that starts with a letter or number, such as www.abc-woodworkers.com or www.A1-Photography.com or www.543-Bookstores.com, etc.

You can get a fountain of information such as this and much more about building websites, SEO, website diagnosis and more at www.Sweebit.com. I’ve learned so much here and am continuing to learn. Definitely worth the time if you want a successful website!
