Internet Marketing Consultants Be Prepared – SEO is Moving In-house!

Today I want talk about where the SEO market is going and why it’s a great thing for UK businesses of all size. Let’s start from the beginning and imagine we were building a new site…

Amazingly, it’s still common practice for companies launching websites to

1)Pay a web designer to design and build the site

2)Then pay an SEO company to select the key words, re-optimise the sites coding, copy and structure then build links and authority etc

Why not do the keyword research first then build the site to SEO specifications, so it’s Search Engine ready?

This is an optimised site design…nothing new really (although most web designers are not SEO experts hence why so many sites are flash based or graphic rich and content poor)

So we now have a Search Engine ready site with:

- a CMS based site to allow easy content updates.

- viable keywords

- content to support the keywords and promote the company

- correct coding, internal linking and site maps

- blogs and rss feeds built in and ready to go

All the coding and tricky parts have been done, so its time to build authority for the site and increase its popularity by building back links and external content.

Now these are not technical procedures and the results can be achieved by using web 2.o platforms such as Squidoo and Hubpage and Social Bookmarking facilities such as Digg or Delicious. Combine this with article writing and submissions and some forum and blog interaction and hey presto…..your optimising your site.

The real trick is knowing how to do it and how to link all these factors together to create link juice and send page rank to the main site.

And of course… its useful to know about Google Analytics to track your performance.

With a small amount of training…it’s not inconceivable that a small business could get staff to learn these skills and optimise their own site. Not only would this save huge amounts of money, they would learn really valuable skills for the future.

SEO firms are using the mystery and technical knowledge to scare businesses into thinking the have to bring in an expert firm. Fixed price SEO gets the Job done and most agencies in the UK are very good but does the SEO service really help businesses move into a new era of doing business…or just introduce them to it -through improving their search engine rankings

Summary

To be honest, I would not recommend self optimising without some support form an expert to make sure your heading in the right direction. This said, with the right support and training -’self optimisation’ could be the next big thing in internet marketing….SEO and Internet Marketing Consultants get prepared.
