Could Shared IP Hurt Your Website’s Ranking in Search Engines?
While searching the internet I’ve noticed that there is a small debate between SEOs as to using static VS shared IP for your domain and your website ranking. Many of them argue that static IP boosts your rank while other say it has no impact on it. What I’ve found out is that there is actually something to it.
Shared IP address is what most people get when they sign up for hosting. It is an IP address that is shared between many websites hosted on the same server. Alternatively, some hosting companies offer a static IP address (also called fixed or dedicated) just for few extra bucks a month. The difference is that static IP is unique (even if website is hosted with many other websites on the same server) and not shared between other websites.
My research concluded that Static IP VS shared IP will NOT make your website rank any higher on any search engines. However Static IP will prevent your website from ranking lower or even loosing rank.
Other websites hosted on same shared IP address as your website could have been flagged by search engines for having spam or adult content or other strong penalty that extended to whois IP address. As a result your website could suffer the consequences.
My final word to those who care, for the sake of safety just pay the extra few bucks and get a static IP for your website, it will not help in ranking higher but it will definitely prevent it from suffering penalties.
