You Do Not Have to Spend a Lot of Money to Advertise and Sell a Domain Name

The most effective approach to selling a domain is to sell them directly to the end user, utilize a broker or list them at one the more popular auctions like Sedo or Snapnames.

a. The easiest domains to sell are those that have a generic name that appeals to a mass audience and has broad appeal such as “lowerdrugprices.com”.

b. Do Google searches on key words that match your domain i.e. “bluesky”, “skybue”, etc. and see how many hits are generated – any matches that are product names or the names of a company can give you a fairly good indication of the the names popularity amongst search engines. Research the corresponding company’s name and call or write them with a proposal.

c. Though it may not bring you the highest sales price, Ebay is a good vehicle to find out whether or not your domain is attractive to potential buyers and at what price they are willing to pay. It is a good way to gauge the popularity of a domain and once you make a few sales and develop an loyal audience of trusted buyer you may be able to “upsell” them to a more valuable name in the future.

d. Be prepared to negotiate. Due to the current economy some folks aren’t willing to pay as much for a domain as they did a couple of years ago, therefore be flexible – you don;t have to give your domain away, but by doing a little research you will know the true value of it and not have expectations that are unrealistic, thus halting the negotiations with the buyer before it ever even gets off the ground.

e. Do what you can to develop your domain prior to selling. We have all heard that it is easier to find a job while we already have one. A domain is no different – the appeal of a it is often judged by how popular and productive it was in the course of you owning it. The prospective buyer wants an already popular name for their business.

Package you domain sale properly and the chances of an equitable offer will increase exponentially.
