In today’s world of Internet marketing, the all mighty email list is King. If you are starting out with a personal web site, and have few visitors, there are many tactics you can use to attract people to your web site and sign up through your all important opt-in box. The important idea to keep in mind is that even the longest email list had to start with one address.
So, here is a list of proven list building tactics to attract more people to your website and sign up for your list:

  • Ensure you have an opt-in box on your web site. This needs to be connected to an autoresponder service like that provided by Aweber or HiPerWebSolutions. Make sure the opt-in box is clearly shown on every page of you site and is above the fold (that is, above the bottom of the screen when viewing a page).
  • Invite all of your friends and family to sign up for your web site email mail list and for them to invite their lists.
  • Present the clear benefits on your site for why people should sign up for your list.
  • Develop visitor traffic to your site by exchanging links with related web sites. Make sure they are not competitors, but are affiliated with your niche.
  • Offer subscriber-only incentives, such as a free e-book, manual, or audio.
  • Link up with other sites to cross-promote each other’s offering. The link from one site to the other additionally allows for higher web site ranking too. Most marketers will jump at this offer.
  • Use your current subscribers to assist in your efforts. Offer incentives to the subscriber who brings in the most new sign ups.
  • Comment on other web sites, blogs and forums where your niche customers congregate. This not only is a good way to build a sense of community, but will also assist you in developing more link backs to your site.
  • Make use of your .sig files on your email service. Not only having your name, position and web site listed, but also annotate your free offer for people when they subscribe.
