How to Buy a Domain Name
You can buy a domain name at any domain registrar. To actually make the purchase, you will first search for an available name. To start this process all you need to do is enter in the words you want into the search until you find a domain you want. There are a number of extensions for you to choose from, but most times you should attempt to register a .com or possibly a .net. One domain in either of these extensions should cost no more than $10 although you will find several registrars on the web that charge much more.
Once you have found the web address you want to use for your website, create an account and checkout. You can usually pay with PayPal, credit card, or other payment options.
To create a website for your domain name, you will need web hosting so your website can be on the Internet. You can usually get hosting for $6 or more a month. Free hosting is also available if you don’t mind having ads on the top of your website.
Now that you have a domain name and a web host, you must point the custom domain name servers (DNS) towards the host. The DNS will look something like NS1.webhost.com and NS2.webhost.com.
The next step is to go into web host’s control panel and add-on your domain. Once you have this completed, a folder will be created. Finally, access your host’s FTP program and transfer your website files to the folder created from your add-on. If everything has been completed correctly, you will be able to see your new website by entering your domain name.
