Developing Keyword Lists of Search Campaigns

Developing a keyword list is one of the most essential aspects of creating a search campaign. A keyword list is usually a list of keywords which are transferred into your PPC campaigns. These keywords are specifically chosen to target the niche your website covers.

Many keywords have become fairly competitive due to the rapid growth in the search marketing industry. For the advertiser, this means that competitive keywords will become fairly pricey to bid on.

Finding unique search strings also presents a challenge. If you are looking for keywords through standard tools such as Google’s keyword Tool, then you will be looking at ones which every other Search manager sees. In many cases, finding the right search words is a combination of market research, trending and using multiple sources to find new and interesting keywords.

Using the standard tool will help, but to truly develop those and get some new keywords, you will have to do a fair bit of manual web searching.

First, use the Google tool to find a short list of keywords which applies to your website.

Search every word in your list, and browse the first couple of websites in the results (This includes going to sponsored websites in the results). Begin taking notes on the content as well as the ways Google is looking at the keywords on the page. Try to find keywords inside the content.

Keyword lists should be sorted into different files, each which are categorized based on variations of one basic keyword. For example, you could have “Business opportunities”, “Work from home” and “home business” lists, each with large amounts of keyword variations.

These keyword lists are then loaded into individual campaigns and then run against each other to find the best performing offer.
