SEO or search engine optimization is the first place to start when it comes to website traffic. It is the most important step when building a website because if you do it right you will get all the free traffic you need and you wont have to resort to PPC advertising methods which can be very expensive.
A few years ago you could create a web page and type your main keywords over and over and over again and you would get a top search engine rank.
These days its not so easy. Google’s robots look for things like keyword stuffing or the use of one single keyword to many times.
The robots are looking for relevant information and not just keywords.
Here are some guide lines to follow, use these rules and you will have a great search engine ranking.
1. Choose one high demand keyword for each page, to find out if a keyword is in high demand use googles keyword tool.
2. The keyword can only be 3 words long anymore and it will be to narrow.
3. Use that one keyword in the page title.
4. Use that same keyword in the page description.
5. Also in the headline
6. Also in the meta tags
7. In the meta tags do not type in more than 5 keywords or Google will consider it keyword stuffing.
8. Use your main keyword within the first 90 characters of the text body.
9. Use your main keyword every 500 words to make that keyword relevant to your page.
10. Use your main keyword in an outgoing text link preferably a link that goes to another page on your own website.
