Google Website Traffic – How to Stop Over Complicating the Keyword Research Process

February 25, 2010 by  Filed under: PPC

One of the biggest stumbling blocks people have with making money from their websites is the fact that they have no idea which keywords they should use. In this article want to show you how you can stop over complicating the keyword research process and see some results from your marketing with Google.

Step #1 – Stop using the keyword research tools that are available online.

The problem with these tools is the fact that you get so much data from them that it is totally overwhelming.

When you are starting out you don’t need a spreadsheet full of 20,000 keywords that you can load up into Google AdWords and get traffic to your site from.

If you do this you will end up causing a lot of problems as Google does not like it when people load up that many keywords when they are just starting out.

Step #2 – Make sure you only focus on the top 10 search terms that make sense to what you are trying to offer the visitors in your niche market.

You need to sit down and write out 10 search terms that you think people would type in the search engines if they were trying to find your product online.

This sounds simple and is extremely simple. But you have to realize that if you do this you will be able to attract the most qualified visitors to your offer.

That means you will probably get less traffic, but you will get a higher conversion rate from the visitors that you are getting to your site.

Once you have proven that you can make money using this strategy, you can then start ramping up your ad buying using more search terms. But make sure you keep adding search terms that make sense to what you are selling.

Don’t get tempted to dump every keyword from the dictionary into your AdWords campaign. Discipline yourself and do it the right way.
