Because they feel that most of the traffic to their website is most likely too far away to actually purchase from them. However research show over half of merchants surveyed by web advantage would use PPC ads online if they could target only their local market.
The best way to succeed at local PPC is to find which keywords to use. It may be beneficial to use a service like Google’s AdWords or Word-tracker to find similar or related words/phrases that are being searched along with your keywords. This also allows you to see what people are searching for in the search engines with your keywords in it.
One way to increase the traffic that your website receives by local pay per click is to use very specific negative keywords. So what is a negative keyword? It is a keyword that does not relate with your ad, product/service, or company. You should take all of these irrelevant keywords and mark them as your negative keywords in the local PPC campaign. This will see to it that your ads do not appear for non-relevant local advertising searches this is a great way to prevent yourself from paying too much for your local PPC campaigns.
