Ways to Increase Your YouTube Views

We all know about the YouTube videos which achieve viewing figures in the millions. Passed from inbox to inbox, the viral video is sent across the globe to edify and entertain people of all classes, languages, colours and cultural beliefs. Many YouTube publishers upload with the hope that their video might similarly catapult them to fame and glory but the reality is that these million-plus viewing figures are not the norm.

So how can you gain respectable viewing figures for your content? Despite the huge volume of videos that’s published on YouTube every day, it’s still possible to achieve a sizeable audience for your videos if you follow some simple but effective strategies. This article looks at ways to increase your YouTube views and reach your target audience.

Your content, as with any other publishing format, must meet the following criteria to have resonance with your target audience to the point they share it with their own community:

  1. it must be relevant to your niche audience
  2. it must address their burning issues/key desires/wants
  3. it must of be the appropriate length for the topic, style and audience’s concentration span
  4. it must be accessible both in style and format (subtitling/captioning/detailed description)
  5. it must be entertaining/informative/educational/amusing (or a combination of these)
  6. it must be of an appropriate level
  7. it must be appropriately keyword tagged so it easily appears in their subject searches

Successful videos meet the needs and standards of a particular niche or community and as a result can achieve impressive viewing figures which could over time, extend to the thousands and even tens of thousands. There’s no point spending time and effort creating videos that are irrelevant and uninteresting. Employ the usual ways of researching your community’s needs and wants to see what topics and issues are on their mind.

Monitor the videos that already exist within your niche and create content that match the style and level of the most successful. Spending time to review and analysis comparable work makes good strategic sense. Adding your own unique contribution to a model and format that already pleases and resonates with your niche ensures you can build good viewing numbers in a shorter space of time.

Use YouTube’s own category and tags to search for videos on your topic theme and make suitable observations on the results that come up. How many videos are there on the topic and under what categories? Filter by views, and ratings etc., and note the common factors that link the higher-ranked videos. Shape your content to reflect those that get the stronger results.

If short length videos achieve better results than longer length ones, you can judge whether this reflects an audience need. A how-to video that’s only three minutes long might have a stronger appeal to its niche audience than a 30 minute one. Similarly, musical performances might be longer than four minutes to gain a better following than a 60 second one.

Look at the common factors which run through successful videos in your sector and script and plan your videos to match. If you notice that videos that have higher production standards do better than those that don’t, for example where authority, expertise, and professionalism need to be demonstrated, then upgrade your production values to suit.

Make your video accessible to the widest possible market by subtitling or captioning. Adding captions to your content means that it can be enjoyed by those who are hearing-impaired, or who are not familiar or confident in the spoken language of the video. Making the video user-friendly shows a sense of professionalism and commitment to your niche which they will appreciate.

Subtitling will also increase viewing figures as the caption content is analysed by Google’s keyword search software which drives your video higher up in search results. Keywords are a very important way to raise visibility so it is worth taking the time to tag every video with due diligence and care.

Don’t forget to traffic to your YouTube site by promoting it via your social media platforms. You can upload videos onto your Facebook page and drive people to your YouTube channel through Twitter updates. Connect your YouTube channel to as many of your social media and online profiles as possible and add feed links so that each time you upload a new video, you can alert your community.

Using the proven strategies shown in this article will help you increase your YouTube views and help you stand out within your target niche.
