Taking Advantage of an Organic Search Online

February 23, 2012 by  Filed under: SEO

From the poor entrepreneur living in a bachelor eating Kraft Dinner every night to the CEOs of large companies, every business-minded person’s dream is to have a business model that acts like your own personal ABM and gives you money on demand. Now with the advent of online advertising and organic search results-based marketing many companies, retailers and brands may find themselves being left in the dust by their competition if they’re not embracing this new style of marketing. In fact, not using organic search marketing is about the same as throwing huge piles of money into the garburator.

This is a simple concept really, it’s using search engines such as the ultra popular Google to get your marketing message in front of your target audience. If you run a Toronto design agency and someone types in “Toronto design agency” into Google you want your website to be the first thing that comes up. This is the central concept for this business strategy.

If you’re not using the right keywords on your website and in your domain name you can bet you’re not going to make a single loonie from this marketing method. Search engines such as Google and others display your site under terms it associates with it. For example if you want to target “Toronto Design Agency” make sure it is in your domain name, title of your website, title of your posts/pages and sprinkled throughout your content. This is known as on-page SEO (search engine optimization.)

Also ensure that you’re targeting keywords that people are looking for. By using keyword tools such as Google’s AdWords Keyword Tool you can see what search terms related to your business are getting looked up the most. If “Toronto Design Agency” is only getting 100 searches a month but “Toronto Designer Agency” is getting over 1000 then you know which one would be best to target. Also remember it is generally a good strategy to target groups of keywords, not just one.

A backlink is when there is a link on another site that is liking back to your site with anchor text. This is a great way to “please” Google and other search engines and is known as off-page SEO. Making sure your site has plenty of high-quality backlinks from relevant sources is a great way to help boost it up the rankings.

Organic search marketing and SEO can be complicated if you’re just getting started and it can really pay off in the end to spend a few lorries hiring a professional service to handle it for you. Just make sure the company is reputable and isn’t overcharging you for their services. If done right this style of marketing can bring in hundreds of new customers a month.
