Search engine optimization (SEO) is a method used by lots of webmasters worldwide to get traffic from search engines for free. Therefore, there would be some common mistakes that webmasters make when conducting their SEO campaign. Thus, I have decided to compile a list of 5 common SEO mistakes that most webmasters make. I hope you find it informative.

1. Designing a non-search engine friendly website. If you want to use SEO to increase your website traffic from search engines, you should never ever design a website that has too many flash elements or JavaScript elements as web crawlers cannot index data that is using flash or JavaScript. A web crawler is a computer program that index data from websites so that search engines would be able to rank the websites

2. Choosing a free web hosting provider to host your website. You should never ever choose a free hosting plan for your website as search engines such as Google or Yahoo will automatically block websites using a free hosting provider from appearing in their search results. The plausible reason that search engines would block websites that are using a free hosting provider is that these the content in these websites are generally of very low quality

3. Adding too many of the same keywords in your article. When adding keywords in your article, you should take note that you should not add it a lot of times as search companies would think that you are trying to take advantage of their algorithm. The ideal keyword density is 3%. Keyword density is calculated by dividing the total number of the same keyword by the total number of words in the article

4. Choosing a keyword that is too general. You should never choose a keyword that is too general like: car, motorcycle, dog, broccoli etc. The reason as to why you should not choose keywords that are too general is that you will find it hard to increase your website’s search rankings as there is a lot of competition.

5. Too many broken links. You should never have too many broken links in your website as search companies such as Google will think that your site is not well maintained and thus will reduce your site’s search ranking.
