HostGator Review Part 5: Customer Support

This is part 5 of my series of HostGator review articles. I am using them to share my experiences of building my first website using HostGator. Hopefully other people who are considering building their first website will realize how easy HostGator makes it. In this article we look at the customer support that they offer.

When I was first looking for a hosting company for my website I really didn’t pay attention to things like customer support. I made my choice primarily based on price which is how I wound up with HostGator. It turned out that a I got very lucky as I have discovered that customer support is a critically important aspect of a hosting company and that HostGator are one of the best in the industry.

The main thing that you have to make sure of when you are choosing a hosting company is to make sure that they offer twenty four hour customer support. You also want to make sure that they offer twenty four hour server monitoring. If they don’t and your site goes down in the middle of the night it can take a long time to get it back up and running. I have actually had this experience in which my site went down on a Saturday evening. I contacted HostGator and about an hour later the problem was solved.

One of the things that I really like about HostGator’s customer service is how may different ways I can contact them. I can do it by phone or by live chat which means that I know that somebody is actually working on my problem. This is much better than a lot of hosting companies which require you to fill out a contact form explaining the problem, there is no way to know when somebody is going to read it.

The other thing that I really like about HostGator’s customer support is that they give me a ticket that I can use to track the progress that has been made on fixing my problem. All I have to do is log in and enter my ticket number and I will be able to see what has been done and what needs to be done. Admittedly I have not had to actually check the progress of a repair since the only time that I have needed something fixed it was done in less than an hour. I am however glad that the option exists in case I do need it at some point.
