Learning how to optimize your blog is not a picnic. It took me about 8 months to understand what it was and how it could benefit me tremendously. But even after I began to understand it, applying it to my blog was an entirely different story.

You see, there are two parts to optimizing your blog. One way is using On-Page SEO. This simply means that you are making sure your content is easily searchable by the search engines by sticking with a specific keyword through out your blog post. Also, it means that you must follow certain guidelines the search engines love to see through out a piece of content. Below are a list of them.

1. Make sure your H1 tag has your keyword.
2. Make sure your H2 tag has your keyword.
3. Make sure your H3 tag has your keyword.
4. Make sure your keyword is in the first sentence of your blog post.
5. Make sure your keyword is in Bold.
6. Make sure your keyword is in Italic.
7. Make sure your keyword is Underlined.

These are just some of the things you need to do to every blog post or piece of content you create on the internet. The entire point is to make it easy for the search engines to be able to find your content when searchers are looking for it.

Another key ingredient you have to make sure you include is your keyword density. That simply means don’t spam your blog post with your keywords.

For example, If I am writing a blog post on “how to blog”, I will need to make sure that the entire article stays focused on how to blog and all the benefits of learning how to blog. This is just an example. Another thing is that you cant use your keyword too many times. Search engines call that keyword stuffing and can cause you to lose rankings.

That’s just a little overview of what On-Page SEO. After you complete your blog, you then need to focus your attention on Off-Page SEO. This is simply focusing on what you can do off your blog to promote it. Off-Page SEO has to do with basically getting acknowledgement from other websites on the internet that relate to your topic.

The way you get that acknowledgement is by having those websites point back to your blog post through a link. For example, I go and post a comment in a blog that is relevant to my topic and leave a link back to my blog. That is considered a back link. And the more of those you have, the higher your blog post will rank.

These are just some basics about learning how to optimize your blog.

Truly you can save yourself a lot of headaches if you just learn how to optimize your blog. Simply put, if you want the search engines to really rank your content, you MUST optimize your blog. Something that you may also find useful is why are keywords important. This information alone can dramatically increase your Google rankings.
