Have you tried to get your website ranked in Google but find it really hard? Did you have a good rank in Google but suddenly find that you don’t? If the answer to this is yes then you may want to look at Google Penguin. It is important that you know a bit about SEO as well as Google Penguin when you look into this.

What is SEO

The first question you should ask is what SEO is. SEO stands for search engine optimization which is the method used by website owners to get traffic. By putting SEO onto your website will help get you a good rank on search engines and this allows people to find your site. There are many techniques that you can use to do this but you have to be careful. The search engines are patrolling this more than before due to spam and low quality websites.

What is Google Penguin

Now that you know a bit about SEO you can find out about Google Penguin. This is a new algorithm created by Google to better control SEO. This is an upgrade from the previous Panda algorithms. In total around 3.1 percent of all English language searches will be affected by Penguin. The whole idea behind these new algorithms is to ensure that only the highest quality websites appear highly ranked on Google.

Search engine optimization after Google Penguin

After Google Penguin went live many websites where hit rather hard. Google has set up a form that you can submit to them if you think you were hit hard. Of course the SEO methods that you are using could be the cause of your problems. There are some things that you can do to ensure that you don’t get hit by Penguin.

· Make sure that you are putting up quality links. This is possibly the most important thing in SEO but many people try and take short cuts in order to get ranked.

· Make sure your website is spam free. Spam is one of the biggest problems a marketer can have. If someone posts a spam comment on your website then Penguin will actually mark the whole website down. This means that you have to be extra vigilant about getting rid of spam.

· Original content will get you better points with Penguin. Spun or duplicate content is a huge no-go for Penguin and it is seen as a bit unethical.

· Using a private blog network can damage your rank as well. While these sites are helpful in getting your posts out there they do post to poorly ranked sites and they spin the articles. This affects your rank as the links you have are poor and the spun material makes it seem like you are posting duplicate material.

Google Penguin has caused people to look at how they implement SEO more carefully. The algorithm looks to remove all spam and duplicate content from the high rank pages of the search engine. O avoid getting hit by Penguin you need to ensure you have quality links and content as well as keep track of what users post on your site.
