4. Make sure that you visit traffic exchanges such as traffic swarm. While some of this traffic is not the best, I have seen fairly good results from these traffic exchanges. However, don’t let this be your primary method of traffic generation.

The topic to address now is how important it is for a writer’s website to be updated regularly.

Let’s first clarify the word ‘regularly’ - this does not mean everyday! Unless you’ve been writing full time for the past ten years, you won’t have enough quality material to keep your website updated with fresh content so often.

Instead, try to update your website every couple weeks, at the least every month. Why? It all comes down to the fact that the search engines love fresh, quality content, and the same applies to writing.

Even if when you first build your site you have a great deal of material, it is better to upload pages gradually - the search engines will recognize this as the addition of fresh content.

If a potential client goes to your website and sees that it hasn’t been updated in a long time, then that client will start to wonder, “What has this person been doing? In going about your site update, there a several important things to keep in mind.

First of all, if your work gets accepted for publication, make sure to mention it. Once you have confirmation from the publisher, put it up there, even if you don’t have a fixed date.

Secondly, be sure to update your writing samples. If current affairs is your specialty, don’t have too many work examples from years ago. Keep it up to date so that readers will relate to it. Of course, if that older work netted you some sort of prize or award, the time restriction doesn’t apply. In fact, work of yours that has won recognition should be highlighted on the first page of the website.

One last thing, if you are devoted to keeping your site up to date, that will keep you writing material even during slow periods. This will keep your skills sharp and that is always a good thing.

But, as it turns out, there does seem to be a way to rank your domains in MSN/Live search. A loophole, if you will, that can be exploited by wily webmasters.

Dave Kelly, the guy who created the backlink generation service known as Linkvana, has been using this loophole for several years, and now he has decided to finally come clean and reveal what it is that he has been doing. I guess we all wish he had fessed up a lot earlier. But better late than never, I suppose.

To cut a long story short, Dave performed some experiments and found that it was possible to fool the MSN/Live search engine into thinking that certain web sites had a great deal more backlinks going to them than they really did.

That the strategy to rank your domain highly in MSN involves backlinks should not be surprising, given that we know they play such an important role in other search engines, and that Dave is the founder of Linkvana. Backlinks are his business.

What Dave has just published is a report that he calls the Ultimate Search Engine Loophole. In it he describes his exact strategy for fooling MSN into giving his domains preferential placement in its search engine.

Can anybody do this, or is it just something that Dave Kelly can do? It appears that ANYONE can do this. In his report on the strategy he uses, Dave is very thorough in his description of what is required. The process is entirely transparent, and the only impediment to achieving similar results might be one’s unwillingness to roll up the sleeves and spend a little time implementing the exact strategy.

As a part of his method of ranking domains, Dave Kelly uses a script that he calls the LinkuBaiter. While it is not a required element of the strategy, the script does something efficiently that otherwise would slow you down quite a bit it you were forced to do it manually. For that reason, I decided to build a similar script that could be used to do the same thing. I call my script LinkRoller, and you can grab a copy of it from my site if you decide that you want to try your hand at this domain-ranking strategy. At the very least, it will save you some money.
