Whether you are an individual or a big company that is trying to get their website selling on the internet, search engine optimization is what you have to be worried of. Search engine optimization is simply a process for getting your website to appear at the top list whenever a searcher types in keywords that are related to your industry.

Much of the information below came from Wealthy Affiliate University, as I am a long time member there and they have taught me pretty much everything that I know about this business.

Optimizing websites was basically derived from the realization that most people never worry about looking at those pages that are listed at the bottom; they either click on the first top ten websites or go to another search engine. So the better ranked your page is, the better are the chances of getting massive traffic and the better are the chances of getting better income from your website.

The fact is, they are just too many websites that are bound to appear on each search you do which makes it very difficult to get the top spot too. However, with the bets tips, you stand to be at better advantage of being ranked at the top; so, here are some tips that will get you started;

1. Don’t try to be better ranked in all the search engines, they all use different logarithms and aiming at getting better ranks in all the engines might even get you not being ranked at the top at all. Google is the gold standard and most searchers prefer it, so aim its better to aim at being ranked better on Google first.

2. Do research on the keywords you want to use and avoid using a keyword simply because they are used by your competitors, they might be having much detail on them that you do.

3. Sometimes its best to aim at getting better traffic than better ranks, you can get better ranks through vague keywords which wont get you huge traffic.

4. Search engines don’t call for submission of sites so never let SEO firms cheat you by saying they will give in your site to other search engines.

5. Never waste time seeking back links that are not relevant to your industry, they don’t add up.

6. Rather have few back links than having link farms, they risk you site being penalized at worst cases being banned.

7. Come up with high quality content on your website; even if you are ranked at the top, poor content wont keep visitors coming back to your website.

8. Avoid too much use of images and videos, search engines don’t read images, they read text instead, so in case you have to use images, have the images marked with long topics that include your keywords.

9. Make use of inactive HTML text than flash based, search engines cant read them and this cant recognized what you page is about.

10. Getting to the top takes a lot more and most importantly time. So don’t expect your website to be at the top list overnight, if you are using an SEO company, never fall for a quick fix promise. They end up using strategies that will risk your site being banned.

Hopefully these 10 search engine optimization tips will help you with your internet marketing career and with driving traffic to your site. Since I am a Wealthy Affiliate University alumni, many of the tips and much of the information I withhold comes from the Wealthy Affiliate University, as they are great teachers of this business, personally I think they are the best.

Top 10 SEO Tips

November 7, 2009 by Butterfly | Leave a Comment Filed under: SEO

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is the process of achieving greater results in the search engines. web designers can ensure that the functionality of websites and ecommerce solutions are written to allow the search engines to navigate their websites efficiently, but they can only do so much.

By following these simple tips it’s possible to populate your website in a way that benefits your search engine ranking positions (SERPs).

Before even thinking about SEO the most important factor to consider is to establish a target market.

1. Identify your realistic target market and Keywords – Be realistic about what you can expect to achieve. If the term or Keyword that you are aiming for is highly competitive, consider aiming for more achievable goal. For example;

If you are a solicitor working in Brighton and covering the Brighton area then aiming to be number one in the search engines for the term ‘solicitor’ may be less advantageous than aiming to be number one for the term ‘Brighton Solicitor’ not to mention significantly more achievable, as the competition for that term would be less.

When you have found the Keywords or Keyword phrases that best suits your target market, use them throughout your website.

2. Make the best use of alt tags and meta tags – Use the Keyword you have chosen within the meta tags and alt tags, make them relevant to the content of the web page, but ensure they are keyword rich.

3. Make the content keyword rich.

4. Get inbound relevant quality links – Encourage people to link to your website. Inbound links are a measure of relevance, so if another web page talking about the Keyword topic, links to your website it adds credence to the fact that your website is a useful resource for that topic. The following tips will help you achieve this.

5. Write content relevant articles and submit them to article submission websites. (like this)

6. Write good news articles about your industry.

7. Add industry relevant videos.

8. Write good quality content that people will genuinely feel is helpful or interesting.

9. Submit quality content and advice on community websites that permit signature links. In time you will become a respected member and other users will trust you.

10. Create helpful tips and guides that people might refer to as a useful resource.

SEO is only half the battle

SEO is a term often banded about as the holy grail of internet marketing, but internet users can be quite fickle. Using the tips in this guide will help to establish your organisation as reliable and trustworthy and this factor alone is certain to gain you more conversions than trying other less ethical methods of search engine manipulation.
